Want a few suggestions for when you read something you don't understand in the Bible? Check out this post for some SIMPLE TIPS!
Hey there, Lisa here! I’ve got some simple Bible study tips for you! Want to know 3 things I do when I read something that I don’t understand in the Bible?
[Okay so sometimes, I’m just distracted or tired or I’m hoping that reading my Bible will quiet my mind and it hasn’t started working yet 😬 We’re human, right? There are a lot of reasons why we might not understand what we’re reading in the Bible. No matter who you are everyone can read and learn something new while reading the Bible. (PS If any one ever tells you they’ve read the Bible and they know it all, be careful 😳) ]
Anyway back to my 3 things … (see how I got distracted there? )
Here you go ...
🤓1. Re-read … duh, that seems obvious, right? Reading the text again will help you see what you missed. What you may find though is that YOU STILL DON’T GET IT. I’m with you!!
📚2. If you re-read, try reading in a different version of the Bible. Sometimes reading a different version will have different wording that will help clarify what you read, making it more easy to understand. Other versions of the Bible have also been translated from the original texts by godly scholars desiring to preserve the ancient texts. It’s okay to compare the reading if you are desiring to truly understand. God LOVES that you are seeking Him through His word! (If you’d rather not read from a different version, try LISTENING to an audio version or reading OUT LOUD from the text. This is also helpful!)
📖3. Besides re-reading or trying a different version or listening to the Bible, be sure to read the entire section or chapter for context. You might find clues as to what is happening or why something was written or said. You’ll often find headings in Bibles too with clues about what is happening in the text!
CONTEXT IS SO IMPORTANT!
What about you? Have you ever tried any of these things to help you understand what you’re reading?
