It’s a historical narrative. This is important because knowing what kind of book we’re studying helps us to understand what God was intending to show us through the telling of the story of Esther!
Knowing the timeline of the story of Esther gives us an idea of how Esther’s family likely were in this part of the world and not in Jerusalem.
God’s name isn’t mentioned ONCE in the book of Esther, making some wonder if it should be included in the canon of scripture. Can we still learn about the person of God when His name isn’t mentioned? I think so! 
There are SO MANY THEMES! Especially since God’s name isn’t mentioned we learn about God’s sovereignty and His providence working in and through the people of the story of Esther. We can see God working in NEW WAYS!
